If you look at the party-system we have, its obvious none of the major players seem to have a clue how to use social media for political gain.
Once they get to grips with it not being about mico-party-political broadcasts, then they might get somewhere. But with only a handful of MPs sharing the nouce or having the gumption to use social media properly, it makes the Social Media political party very threatening to the big three.
Medvedev said he thinks the jailed three (Maria Alyokhina, Yekaterina Samutsevich and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova) should be released early; even though he was “sickened” by how they look and “what they did”. But he also thinks the “hysteria that followed” was sickening too. He is quoted as saying, “This well-known group of girls has been in jail long enough.”
The three are being held in a the pre-detention centre in Moscow until their appeal begins on October 1st (2012).
Medvedev is building on his career as a lawyer, when he tries to portray himself as a liberal reformer. (However, Putin is his mentor!) So spokes-persons for the band dismissed this as more posturing from Medvedev – who has a reputation of appealing to the more liberal demographics in Russian without following-through on promises that he has previously made.
It remains to be seen if October will see their release, or whether this is just another event in this long-running saga.
